Eladrin

Magic-infused descendants of proto-elves, the eladrin are a race whose very existence is dedicated to the pursuit of magic and the mastery of their environment. That this study has ravaged the continent on which they live is not lost on the eladrin, but neither does it halt them in further pursuits. They may live surrounded by blizzards of acidic snow and lakes of electrified water, but the bubbles of force that mark the boundaries of their cities are impregnable, and their teleportation circles allow safe commerce and travel. The eladrin point to these achievements as vindication for the many disasters and sacrifices that define their history.

Eladrin stand a few inches shorter than hobgoblins, though their build is much more lithe. They possess long, thin fingers on graceful limbs, and many grow their nails to delicate points. Eladrin facial features are sharp to the point of severity, their faces dominated by large, almond-shaped eyes which lack irises and are a solid silver or golden color with no visible veins. Their skin tone and hair are pale, with the latter ranging in color from light gold to silver-white. The majority of Kingdom citizens are eladrin, and thus form the peasant caste. Most can read and write, and as farming is handled magically, most focus on jobs as scribes, carpenters, and artisans. Even the humblest eladrin harbors within their frame the essence of pure magic. Any eladrin is capable of expelling this energy, suffusing her entire body with pure arcana for the merest moment; this has the effect of discorporating her into a cloud of silver energy which, directed by her will, can shoot several yards in an eyeblink. The eladrin then reforms, unharmed by slightly wearied. Another consequence of this arcane malleability is the eladric capacity for deeper change; it is this arcane essence that makes tiefling bargains and genasic covenants possible.

The iconic eladric weapon is a straight-bladed sword slightly longer than three feet in length, chisel-tipped and sharpened on only one edge. Every Eladrin trains with this weapon during their youth, though few ever raise one in anger. Eladrin garments are usually thick silk, and they favor tight cloth slippers over boots. Many eladrin spend at least a few years in the military, though the inhospitable nature of their homeland means they rarely face coordinated threats; instead, they battle the elemental creatures and rogue constructs that are the legacy of incautious. Eladrin also comprise a large percentage of the ancestor-worshipping clergy in the Kingdoms, using their powers to cast out malevolent entities unleashed by the other Bloodlines. Finally, eladrin are drawn to the call of arcane magic in all of its forms, though prefer the measured approach of the wizard. Eladrin who enjoy wielding their blade in combat as well as meditation become swordmages, though many never engage in actual fights but simply use katas as a method of attaining mental clarity. It is relatively uncommon for eladrin to pursue warlock pacts, as those with an inclination to bind themselves to a more powerful being usually do so by joining the tiefling or genasic bloodlines.
